Current COVID-19 Guidance
British Gymnastics update: Tuesday 1st March 2022

COVID-19 remains a risk, it is still possible to catch and spread COVID-19, even if you are fully vaccinated. COVID-19 will be a feature of our lives for the foreseeable future, so we need to learn to live with it and manage the risk to ourselves and others. All of us can play our part by understanding the situations where risks of COVID-19 infection and transmission are likely to be higher, and taking action to reduce these risks. Following this guidance will help you to understand situations where there is a greater risk of catching or spreading COVID-19 and the steps that you can take to stay safe and protect others. Every action you can take to help reduce the spread. will help reduce pressure on the NHS during the winter months.
The risk of catching or passing on COVID-19 can be higher in certain places and when doing certain activities. It is possible to be infected by someone you don’t have close contact with, especially if you’re in a crowded and/or poorly ventilated space. Close contact with an infected person is also a significant way COVID-19 is spread. We should all be considerate of this and provide the opportunity and space for others to reduce close contacts if they wish. In general, the risk of catching or passing on COVID-19 is higher:
• in crowded spaces, where there are more people who might be infectious
• in enclosed indoor spaces where there is limited fresh air
The risk is greatest where these factors overlap, for example in crowded indoor spaces where people are raising their voices.
As a British Gymnastics club we have the following policies and restrictions in place:
• limiting close contact within the activity area where possible
• implementing capacity restrictions by staggering start and finish times for classes
• continuing to minimise the number of close contacts coaches and gymnasts have
• limiting manual supporting wherever possible
Whilst there are still cases of COVID-19 in England, everybody needs to continue to act carefully. It is important that we regularly review and update current operating procedures and risk assessments, in line with changes to legal requirements and government guidance. Any amendments to our current processes and procedures will be carefully planned and updates to the current policies will be circulated and will also appear here.
It is our duty of care is to try to ensure the environment is safe for those who attend our club. This includes taking reasonable steps to ensure that our gymnasts, staff and visitors will be safe whilst attending for the purpose of their visit. We will regularly review and update our risk assessments, and act according to British Gymnastics and public health advice changes.
